Hero

Hero Reimagined is a performance project inspired by the visual language of Chinese wuxia cinema, particularly the film Hero. The project explores how traditional cultural narratives can be reinterpreted within a contemporary performance context while maintaining their emotional and symbolic power.

My contribution focused on costume design, visual research, and character development. Drawing inspiration from historical Chinese clothing, martial arts films, and traditional aesthetics, I developed costumes that balanced cultural references with the practical demands of live performance. Rather than pursuing historical accuracy, I was interested in capturing the atmosphere, movement, and visual poetry associated with wuxia storytelling.

The project also involved experimentation with stage elements, fabric movement, audience positioning, and visual composition. Through these explorations, I developed a deeper understanding of how costume, space, and performance interact to shape audience experience. The work ultimately became an investigation into cultural memory, adaptation, and the possibilities of translating traditional forms into contemporary performance.
